What is the CCSE exam?

The test of constitutional and sociocultural knowledge of Spain (CCSE) is an exam created by the Cervantes Institute that evaluates knowledge of the Spanish Constitution and Spanish social and cultural reality.

For some years now, it has been one of the requirements established in the laws for the acquisition of nationality for residents in Spain.

If you want to take the CCSE exam in San Sebastian (Guipuzcoa), you can sign up for one of these exams.

If you want to take the CCSE exam in Santander (Cantabria), choose one of these exam dates.

First, you must register on the Cervantes website and create a new user. It is very important that you remember your registration data.

Payment is made through the website itself, so remember to have a card handy.

The exam costs 85 € but you will have 2 chances. In case your result is NOT APT, you will be able to sign up again without paying, as long as you do it in the same center.

In our case, you will take the exam on the same day of the convocation (Thursday) but we will assign you an appointment. We will send you an email about two weeks before the date you have chosen to choose your appointment (between 12:00 and 20:00). It is important that if you have not received an email before this date, please contact us to schedule your appointment.

It is very important that on the day of the exam you bring your original NIE and passport, as well as the registration receipt. The receipt can be submitted in digital format via cell phone.

The test is normally done in about 15-20 minutes, but you will have up to 45 minutes to complete it.

The results are sent 20 days after the official date of the call for applications. You will receive an email with the certificate, but you can also download it through the Cervantes website with your user data.

The certificate is valid for 4 years.

The exam consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. It is very important that you answer all the questions, as mistakes are not penalized. On the other hand, you can make up to 10 mistakes, to be PASSED you only have to get 15 correct answers.

You will first have to apply for a waiver from the Ministry of Justice. Once you have the dispensation, you can sign up for the special exams that the Instituto Cervantes opens on the last Tuesday of each month (except in August and December). These tests are adapted to candidates who cannot read or write (non-literate) and who are applying for Spanish nationality. In these cases, you must register in this call (the Tuesday call).

In addition to the registration receipt, the original NIE and passport, it is mandatory that the candidate presents the waiver and the rest of the required documentation in order to access the exam.

The examination will be given individually and will be oral. A person will be with you, read the questions to you and write down your answers.

The exam questions revolve around knowledge of government, legislation and citizen participation, and culture, history and society. The test consists of five tasks and 25 questions.
